FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPERS and CALIPER REBUILD PARTS:

Stopping fast has never been easier! We offer a complete line of “Bolt On And Stop!” fully rebuilt original calipers that saves you time and (usually) an incredible amount of effort in dealing with rusty or stuck pistons, missing parts, etc. (the typical “restorer’s dilemma"). These calipers are professionally rebuilt, freshly powdercoated, and ready for a quick installation, bleeding, and you’re “back on the road again”. Our rebuilt calipers feature all new pistons and seals, and a variety of new or re-furbished hardware (including mounting bolts and washers, etc.). Pads and pad shim plates (those “anti-squeal” plates on the back of the brake pads) are not included and should be ordered separate.

All rebuilt calipers are sold on a trade-in basis, and a CORE CHARGE is included on the initial purchase, which will be refunded to you upon the return of same model, re-buildable calipers (and mounting brackets, if your bike originally uses those). “Rebuildable” means: no missing or damaged / road-rashed / etc. caliper bodies, mounting brackets, or hardware; no stripped threads or broken-off fasteners or bleeders; and no “ovalled” holes or passages on the mounting points.


For the do-it-yourselfer, our line of OEM and aftermarket BRAKE CALIPER REBUILD PARTS allow you to replace the operational parts needed to correctly rebuild one caliper. Available both as individual parts, SEAL KITS, PISTON AND SEALS KITS, or CALIPER COMPLETE REBUILD KITS, these precision made parts will allow you to correct restore the operational efficiency of your disc brake calipers to like-new condition. Please note that if you find that the piston needs replacing, you should be sure to check the condition and roundness of the caliper bore, and re-finish or replace the caliper if necessary.

Additionally, you should always carefully inspect and replaces as needed the various CALIPER HARDWARE pieces.....bolts, pins, rubber boots, alignment shims, and the like.

Finish up your caliper rebuild with an original style bleeder screw or the speed-bleeder screws listed further below.

Yamaha recommends that your brake calipers be rebuilt every 2 years.


HINT: one thing that the service manuals don't mention is that after all these years of abuse (and probably neglect), that the recessed fluid and dust seal ring lands in the caliper body have probably accumulated an awful lot of built-up vulcanized rubber debris and what-not, and unless you get those ring lands zestfully clean and completely free of all of the built-up junk, your new piston seals will not seat properly and will not seal properly (or, will cause the piston to jam within the bore as it is pushed "sideways" by the bulging, uneven rubber seals)....please review these pictures and procedures on the 2nd page:

NOTE: please always wear safety glasses when using these brushes, as the brass wire bristles can (and do) come loose occasionally from the brush, and they'll always head straight for your eyeball when they do!

This ultra-thin stainless steel shim fits into the L-shaped HCP18488LH or HCP18488RH retainer bracket-to-caliper body shim retaining plate and adjusts the spacing needed for the caliper body to properly "float" independent of the retainer. Fits either left or right side calipers only. If your retainer bracket-to-caliper body clearance is too large, your caliper will “rattle” and “clunk” during operation. This ultra-thin stainless steel shim fits into the L-shaped HCP18488LH or HCP18488RH retainer bracket-to-caliper body shim retaining plate and adjusts the spacing needed for the caliper body to properly "float" independent of the retainer. Fits either left or right side calipers only. If your retainer bracket-to-caliper body clearance is too large, your caliper will “rattle” and “clunk” during operation. NOTE: How to determine the proper clearance between the caliper body and the retainer block (with a special cameo appearance of the HCP18471 retainer pin):

- Under braking, the braking force is transferred from the caliper body to its retainer block via the large flat surfaces the shim plates ride upon. There will be zero clearance; but you don't want the retainer pin bound in the process…….the braking force has to be applied to the plates not the pin.

If you take a caliper body and its retainer block and clamp them firmly together without the shims of shim plates installed, you won't be able to push the pin through; likewise, if you put the pin into a set without the plates and clamp it together, the pin will bind.

Now add the plates and clamp it together, and the pin should be free to slide in and out without binding. Therefore the two pieces will not "bind" at the pin under braking. The proper amount of clearance (or, the proper thickness of shims needed) is however many it takes to minimize caliper body-to-retainer block clearance without causing any pin binding.

This situation emphasizes the importance of not mixing-and-matching calipers and retainer blocks; they need to stay as a matched set. An improperly matched set can be corrected with the proper thickness shim plates, but the person doing the matching would have to understand the function of the shim plates as outlined above.



HCP24008 OEM brake caliper MOUNTING BOLT, secures the caliper to the lower fork tube. This replacement bolt no longer has the correct head style, but it will fit properly and features the proper bright zinc-plated finish for all XJ550, XJ650RJ Seca, XJ750 Maxim, and all XS1100 Standard models front calipers, but it will also fit all XJ650 Turbo, XJ750 Midnight Maxim, XJ750 Seca, XJ750 Euro, XJ900 (front and rear calipers), XJ1100 front, and 1981 XS1100 Midnight Special front calipers (it does not have the correct black finish for these models). FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER BLEEDER SCREWS:

bp72) OEM and aftermarket disc brake caliper BLEEDER SCREWS, in both the original style and the improved "speed-bleeder" design that allows one-person bleeding. Speed bleeder valves (screws) have an internal spring and ball "check-valve" that allows to fluid to flow out, but prevents air from being drawn back in, thus simplifying and otherwise time-consuming procedure.
