Aftermarket Standard Replacement Horns:
Aftermarket replacement horns are standard-strength OEM replacements, about the same loudness as original horns.
HCP1685 Aftermarket standard replacement HORN, made by the original supplier to Yamaha of XJ-era horns. Chrome diaphram with black rim and back, single-tone, with original length bracket (bracket no longer has the locating notch on the end of it). 2.5 amp, 105-decibel sound pressure is the same as original ratings. Same as the original horn used on all XJ550 Maxim and XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models (except the center diaphram is chrome, rather than black as on the originals).

HCP1686 Aftermarket standard replacement HORN, made by the original supplier to Yamaha of XJ-era horns. HCP27122 Aftermarket standard replacement MINI-HORNS SET, this matched pair of lo- and hi-note horns are small and loud!.....at least as loud as stock horns, and maybe a bit more (they seem to have a slightly higher overall pitch than the stock horns set, and thus sound louder). Horn Relay Wire Harnesses:
In order to take full advantage of either stock or aftermarket horns, full battery voltage must be available at the horn terminals. The long run of under-sized factory wiring, and the stock horn push-button contact, will not allow your horn to receive a full dose of current, and thus your horn---a critical safety component----will be suffocated for amperage and will barely squawk. The solution is a professionally assembled, plug-and-play RELAY-CONTROLLED HORN HARNESS that uses your horn button to actuate an electrical switch (the relay), which then allows full battery power to your horn(s).....allowing them to sing their song at full voice. All of our aftermarket super-duty replacement horns require the use of a relay-controlled horn harness; at best, your aftermarket horns will simply not function at all without one; at worst, they'll burn up your stock wiring and perhaps weld the push-button switch contacts together!
These horn relay wire harnesses are simple to install-----even for the most electrically-challenged mechanics-----and come with extra terminals, cable ties, illustrated instructions, and do not require cutting your original wiring harness at all. Your stock horn switch push-button now powers the relay, rather than the horns, and thus no new switch is needed. Installation time varies, but normally requires 30 minutes or less to install (mostly involving the removal and replacement of your seat and gas tank, and the routing of the wire harness), and absolutely no soldering is required.
