--Front Disc Brake Rotors and Hardware.



FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS:

br1) OEM and aftermarket front and rear disc brake DISC BRAKE ROTORS, brand new units exactly replace damaged or worn out originals.

Original OEM units exactly replace your originals.

High-performance aftermarket rotors not only fit correctly, but also feature a cross-drilled disc with over-lapping holes to prevent disc "ridging" as the pads and disc wears. This spiral "birds-wing" drilling pattern promotes maximum rotor cooling efficiency (not to mention cool looks!) as well as being significantly lighter than the stock rotors.....and on models that use an offset center hub, these floating-design (riveted hubs) provide significant weight savings over the stock rotors, helping to improve both the handling and braking characteristics of your bike. Their precision-ground HSPR low-carbon steel is basically fracture-proof.

Rotors should ALWAYS be replaced in pairs, or adverse and dangerous braking response could result.

And ALWAYS replace disc brake pads when installing new rotors!

NOTE: do NOT mix-and-match aftermarket rotors with original factory rotors on a single wheel (for dual-disc brake systems).


The minimum thickness for original rotors is as follows (these specifications do NOT apply to aftermarket rotors). The maximum allowable "runout" or warpage is 0.15mm high-to-low for all models, all rotors:

8.0mm for all FJ600 front rotors.

4.5mm for all XJ550 models, all XJ650RJ Seca and XJ650 Turbo models, all XJ700 models, and all XJ750 models.

6.5mm for all XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models, XS1100 all models, and all XJ1100 front and rear rotors.

7.0mm for all XJ900RK front rotors.

8.0mm for all XJ900RK rear rotors.

NOTE: XJ750 Police (24L, 33V, and 39Y models) used the XJ650 Turbo master cylinder with XJ750 Seca calipers and rotors, and XJ650 Turbo style forks without anti-dive.

NOTE: XJ750 Police (37H models) used the XJ650 Turbo master cylinder with XJ650 Turbo/XJ750 Maxim/Midnight Maxim calipers, XJ650 Turbo rotors, and XJ900 style forks with anti-dive.



NOTE: original rotors are next to impossible to "resurface" once they warp or get gouged deeply....they're made of a hardened steel material that typical brake re-surfacing machines simply cannot cut, at all. The only way to "re-surface" them is to use a flywheel grinding machine (what's called a blanchard grinder) and even with those, if your bike has a rotor which uses an offset center hub (which is basically all of them, except for XJ650 Turbo models, XJ700 models, and XJ900RK models), then you aren't going to be re-surfacing them......at least, "successfully re-surfacing" them, that is!

Aftermarket High-Performance Front Disc Brake Rotors:

Aftermarket oem-replacement and high-performance version rotors offer superior mechanical advantage over solid rotor types: as the friction ring gets hot, it expands and grows slightly in diameter (keep in mind that the outer diameter of a brake rotor gets much hotter than the hub).

This variance in temperature causes a difference in material expansion. The floating rotor design compensates for this variance by allowing room for the friction ring to expand independently of the central hub, dramatically increasing rotor stability, stopping performance, and service life, while also diminishing the possibility of warpage under the most extreme of conditions.


These rotors perform exceptionally well, and look great, too!

NOTE: all standard oem-replacement floating-hub design rotors come with a natural finish to the central hub section, which you may wish to paint black (or gold in the case of Midnight Maxim models) in order to duplicate the original color scheme of stock rotors. Be sure to use a high-temperature paint as listed in the "Brake Tools" section further below! Our high-performance aftermarket rotors already have a black-painted center hub.

Front Disc Brake Rotor Hardware:

bh3) OEM and aftermarket disc brake ROTOR MOUNTING BOLTS AND LOCKING TAB WASHERS, high-strength, heat treated bolts and double-ear fold-over tab lock washers. We highly recommend replacing the bolts each time a rotor is changed. Lock washers can be re-used, but the un-bending and re-bending of the lock ears can both fatigue and break them off.

Use 6 bolts per rotor, and 3 lock washers per rotor.

Owners of XJ550, XJ650, XJ750, XJ1100, and all XS1100 models can substitute any of the allen-head (hex-drive) bolts listed below for the stock hex-head bolts, as long as they discard the double-space tabbed lockwashers and use thread locking fluid on the bolt threads.

Thread Locking Fluids:

xx2) Fastener THREAD LOCKING FLUID. Use on any fastener that you don't normally ever remove, to make sure that it stays that way. Comes in a variety of formulas, each one designed for a specific use as explained below.

HCP1267 Semi-Permanent THREAD LOCKING FLUID, 6-ounce squeeze tube. This is semi-permanent formula that provides good vibration-loosening resistance, while still allowing for easy disassembly of the fastener with hand tools. This formula is recommended for use with 6-20mm fasteners.
