OIL SUPPLY LINES:

While most of the oil supply distribution throughout the engine is via internal passages and galleries, some engines use EXTERNAL OIL SUPPLY PIPES to feed various area with a dedicated supply of fresh oil. Although the hard metal pipes rarely cause any problems, the union bolts and gaskets that hold the pipes to their feed ports can develop leaks over time.


XJ650 Turbocharger Oil Supply Lines:

The oil pressure and return lines for the turbocharger endure an amazing amount of heat, and as such, are likely to suffer from deterioration and failure. The turbo unit uses a "floating" bearing design that allows the impeller to spin up to----get this!----220,000 rpm's, and it's life depend entirely upon its bearing getting enough oil to properly "float". This requires adequate volume and pressure of oil......so leaks anywhere in this system are frowned upon in a very critical manner. Below is a selection of the proper O-RINGS, GASKETS, and HARDWARE pieces necessary to insure all is well with these crucial lines.

The parts list below starts at the "beginning" of the oil flow, at the oil filter housing, and works its way through until the end, where the return line terminates at the scavenge pump.



HCP7625 OEM oil pressure relief valve joint copper CRUSH WASHER, fitted above and below the supply line joint at the oil pressure outlet port and valve assembly at the bottom of the engine case (next to the oil filter housing). Use 2 per joint, for all XJ650 Turbo models. Each:

All OEM gaskets are made from a standard duty, graphite impregnated paper material. We recommend the use of the aftermarket hi-performance paper gaskets which are designed to slightly swell in the presence of petroleum products (fuel or oil), thus creating a super-tight, leak-proof flange seal.

XJ700-X and XJ750-X Camshaft Case Oil Supply Lines:

The water-cooled engines on these models use a dedicated, external oil supply pipe to feed a pressurized supply of oil to the camshaft bearing journals. Leaks and pressure losses in this supply system not only make a mess of things, but can cause rapid wear of the cam case and camshaft bearing journals.
