NOTE: the crank seals below no longer have the original flanged mounting lip, so they can be installed without splitting the cases, but the removal of the original flanged seals can be a real challenge without splitting the cases.......these are the best videos that we could find to show the process, although the author failed to show the most important part (!)----how to dig the old flanged seal out of the cases. However, at the beginning of the 2nd video, he does show what that flanged seal looks like (after extraction), so you can get an idea of what you're working with, and have an idea of what it will take to dig-pry-distort-tear apart the old seal (carefully, of course....) during the removal process:
